He Who Has Ears

1

Jesus said "He who has ears, let him hear" (Matthew 11:15). We know that "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ" (Romans 10:17).

It is amazing how God designed things to operate in the spiritual realm. He ordained that we would receive His message to us via the instrumentality of ears in a world of words. We hear the gospel of the grace of God in Christ, it touches our hearts, and we respond in faith. Many faculties at work, together in the regenerated soul. It is a miracle of sovereign grace.

It doesn't take too long to figure out that the faculty of hearing is a precious gift only truly cherished by those bereft. The rest of the population take it for granted. It is the way of the depraved. Not until we are deprived do we realize what we had. Words are thrown around like confetti or stones. They are devalued. The greatest are downplayed, the least are exalted.

Something needs to change in the way we process the truth God has given us. Our minds must be renewed. Every thought taken captive to the obedience of Christ. I am thankful that God is sovereign over the mess we have made. It is only by His matchless grace, ceaseless mercy and unconditional love that we whose spiritual hearing is so impaired by sin can hope to enter in to the glorious freedom of the children of God.

We who are "in Christ" are God's beloved children, saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. His death in our place gives life. Indwelt by the Holy Spirit who illumines our minds and opens our ears to receive God's greatest gift: we acknowledge Jesus Christ, the Living Word, who is our very life.
